BBQ party wings on a wooden cutting board

There’s just something about sticky, saucy BBQ wings that makes them the perfect party food. They’re easy to grab, incredibly flavorful, and always a hit with a crowd. The best part? These wings are air-fried, meaning you get all the crispy texture of deep-fried wings but in a healthier, mess-free way.

Not only are these wings a must-have for the Super Bowl or any game day spread, but they’re also perfect for any party, backyard cookout, or even a weeknight appetizer or dinner when you’re craving something delicious. Plus, they pair perfectly with ranch, blue cheese (if that’s your thing) , or even extra BBQ sauce for dipping!

Start by rinsing your wings. Lay them out on a towel and pat dry.

In a mixing bowl, mix your dry seasonings and wings together.

Be sure to place your wings in a single layer in your air fryer - this ensures even cooking and crispiness

Ingredients (Makes 18-22 wings)

For the Wings:

1 tbsp smoked paprika

1 tbsp Italian seasoning

1 tbsp garlic powder

1/2 tbsp onion powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tbsp cornstarch

1/4 cup BBQ sauce (for tossing after cooking)

For the Homemade BBQ Sauce:

8 oz tomato sauce

1 tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

3 tbsp maple syrup

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp chipotle chili powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

For Garnish:

Fresh chopped parsley

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Wings

1. Wash the chicken wings under cold running water, then lay them on a clean towel and pat completely dry. Removing excess moisture helps the wings crisp up perfectly.

2. In a large bowl, add the wings, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, baking powder, and cornstarch.

3. Toss well until the wings are fully coated, ensuring an even layer of seasoning.

4. Let the wings marinate for 30 minutes to 1 hour to enhance flavor. Highly recommend not skipping this step!

Step 2: Air Fry for Perfect Crispiness

5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.

6. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure they aren’t touching or stacked - this allows them to crisp up evenly.

7. Cook at 400°F for 10 minutes, then flip and cook for another 5 minutes.

Step 3: Make the Homemade BBQ Sauce

8. While the wings are cooking, make your BBQ sauce:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, maple syrup, brown sugar, chipotle chili powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).

  • Stir well and let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Step 4: Toss in BBQ Sauce & Final Crisp

9. Once the wings are done cooking, transfer them to a large mixing bowl and toss with 1/4 cup BBQ sauce until evenly coated.

10. Place the sauced wings back in the air fryer and cook for another 5 minutes to caramelize the sauce and create a delicious sticky glaze.

Step 5: Garnish & Serve!

11. Remove the wings from the air fryer and garnish with fresh chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness.

12. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce - ranch, blue cheese, or extra BBQ sauce - and watch them disappear!

A Healthier, Flavor-Packed Alternative

These air-fried wings are a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried wings, giving you that crispy texture without all the excess oil. Plus, making your own BBQ sauce allows you to control the ingredients, avoiding unnecessary preservatives and artificial flavors.
